To create the ranking we began with a list of regionally accredited colleges and universities offering online RN to BSN programs accredited by one of the national nursing program accreditation agencies. This ensured that all of the nursing schools in our ranking met all of the highest standards of accreditation. We then ranked each of these schools by affordability (according to the latest tuition numbers) and quality (according to the latest US News & World Report ranking of the best online colleges for bachelor’s degrees). The 20 programs below scored the highest combined average rank between cost and quality.

#1. SUNY College of Technology—​Delhi School of Nursing

The State University of New York at Delhi, or SUNY Delhi, is a public university that is part of the State University of New York educational system. Founded in 1913, the university focuses on offering technical courses and now features an enrollment of 3000 undergraduate students. It is located in Delhi, New York and is situated in the Catskill Mountains.

SUNY Delhi offers a fully accredited RN to BSN online program for registered nurses and students who have associate’s or bachelor’s degrees in nursing. The online RN to BSN program offered by Fort Hays University is open to RNs who are currently licensed and have maintained a grade point average of 2.50 or higher. While in the program, students must show steady advancement and must complete 30 credit hours of nursing classes and one internship course.

Accreditation
Fort Hays State University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges of Schools (NCA), and it is taking part in a new system established by the NCA known as the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). In addition, the RN to BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

The program requires students to complete 127 credit hours, including 36 credit hours of core nursing courses. However, work experience may be included in the 60 credit hours received for holding a valid RN license.

Bellevue University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). Because the RN to BSN program only began in 2012, the process for accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education is still in progress.

American Public University is a private, for-profit university headquartered in Charles Town, West Virginia. Started in 1991 by retired Marine Corp Major James P. Etter, the university initially offered military courses for servicemen and women who wanted to further their careers in the military. Today, however, it offers both military and professional courses for both the private and military sectors.

Online RN to BSN Program Details
American Public University offers an accredited RN to BSN online program for nurses who have either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing, as well as active licensing in this profession. The university offers financing options for students who require financial aid. The TCE waiver for the program is waived for active members of the military, including those who serve in the guard or national reserves. #6. Ball State University

Ball State University was founded in 1918 in Muncie, Indiana. Approximately 21,000 students enroll in the university each year to take advantage of the 178 bachelor’s degree, 99 master’s degree and 16 doctoral degree programs offered through its seven academic colleges. The online RN to BSN program offered by Ball State University can be completed fully online with the exception of the required clinical training hours. To earn a degree through the program, students must successfully complete 31 credit hours of core classes, 39 credit hours of nursing prerequisites and 20 credit hours of nursing courses in either three or six semesters.

After a two-year assessment, Ball State University recently reaffirmed its regional accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, the university’s online RN to BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and is recognized by the National League for Nursing Center of Excellence.

Western Carolina University was established in 1889 to bring educational opportunities to students in western North Carolina, and the institution is currently headquartered in the city of Cullowhee, NC. Upper Iowa University’s RN to BSN program can be completed entirely online, but students can also complete around 25 percent of their coursework on campus by choosing the hybrid option. Old Dominion’s online RN to BSN program requires a total of 120 credit hours, including 39 credit hours from ODU. Nursing students can choose between the asynchronous and synchronous learning environments. Kaplan University is a distance learning university with an enrollment of approximately 70,000 students. Kaplan’s academic programs are organized into 10 schools, including a school of nursing. The university’s online RN to BSN program is approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing.

Kaplan’s online RN to BSN program is designed to prepare students for specialized nursing and nursing management positions. Full-time students can complete the program and earn their bachelor’s degrees in 18 months, and there are multiple start dates to choose from. The RN to BSN program consists of 41 major credits, 15 elective credits and 34 core credits for a total of 90. The program also features a capstone experience, allowing students to apply their skills in a real-world environment.

Lamar University was founded more than 90 years ago and was named after Mirabeau B. Lamar, the man who was responsible for the first public education system in Texas. The University of California-Dominguez Hills offers an online RN to BSN program for adult learners. #16. University of Southern Indiana

The University of Southern Indiana is located in Evansville, Indiana and is a public university. It has the lowest tuition rates among the four public universities in the state.
